External uPVC Windows & Doors

Modern uPVC windows and doors offer a highly durable, versatile, and energy-efficient solution for residential renovations, new builds, and property upgrades. Far removed from the basic designs of the past, today’s high-performance uPVC systems feature engineered multi-chambered profiles that provide exceptional thermal insulation, robust structural integrity, and advanced home security without requiring intensive maintenance.

To ensure the highest standards of engineering and finish, we source our premium uPVC systems from leading UK manufacturers. Our comprehensive range includes classic casement windows, elegant tilt-and-turn designs, traditional sliding sash options, and a complete selection of secure entrance and patio doors. Whether you want to improve your home’s energy ratings or update its aesthetic, these custom-made systems provide an excellent balance of longevity, styling options, and cost-effective performance.

Why Choose uPVC Windows & Doors?

Modern uPVC remains one of the most practical, dependable, and high-performing materials for contemporary property upgrades and residential renovations.

  • Outstanding Thermal Insulation: Engineered with advanced multi-chambered profiles that trap air, uPVC acts as a natural non-conductive barrier. When paired with high-specification double or triple glazing, these systems significantly reduce heat loss, eliminate cold draughts, and improve the overall energy efficiency of your home.
  • Exceptional Value and Longevity: Providing superior weather resistance, structural integrity, and thermal performance at a highly competitive price point, premium uPVC represents an excellent, cost-effective long-term investment for standard window and door replacements.
  • Virtually Maintenance-Free: Unlike traditional timber, high-grade uPVC requires no regular sanding, painting, or varnishing. The colour-stable material will not rot, flake, peel, or warp over time, requiring only an occasional wipe down with warm, soapy water to keep the frames looking pristine.
  • Enhanced Security and Peace of Mind: Naturally rigid and robust, our uPVC systems are internally reinforced and fitted with heavy-duty multi-point locking mechanisms, offering excellent protection and reliable security for your property.

Popular uPVC Window & Door Styles

Modern manufacturing allows uPVC profiles to be adapted to almost any architectural style, from historic character properties to contemporary new builds.
Here are the most sought-after styles for modern home renovations:

  • Casement Windows: The definitive choice for British homes, featuring side-hinged or top-hung vents that open outwards. Modern casement profiles offer ultra-slim framing sightlines, maximising natural light while providing an exceptionally clean, minimalist aesthetic.
  • Tilt and Turn Windows: Highly popular for modern apartments or multi-storey extensions, these windows offer dual functionality. They can tilt inwards from the top for secure, draught-free ventilation, or swing fully inwards from the side for easy cleaning from inside the property.
  • Sliding Sash Windows: Engineered specifically to replicate the classic appearance of Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian timber vertical sliders. They feature traditional design details like decorative sash horns, but are upgraded with modern double glazing, high-security locks, and smooth tilt-in mechanisms for easy maintenance.
  • French Doors: A timeless, elegant door style featuring a pair of double glass doors that open outwards from the centre. They are ideal for traditional homes or standard structural openings, providing classic styling and a seamless transition to a garden or patio.
  • Flush Sash Windows: A premium modern variant where the window opener sits completely level (flush) with the outer frame when closed. This style beautifully mimics the clean lines of traditional timber joinery or sleek architectural aluminium, making it highly popular for heritage property upgrades.

What to Look for Before Buying Your New Windows and Doors

Investing in new glazing is a significant upgrade that impacts your property’s appearance, security, and warmth for decades. To ensure you make the right choice for your project, keep these essential factors in mind before finalising your specification:

  • Material Suitability: Choose a material that aligns with your property’s architecture and lifestyle needs. While handcrafted timber is essential for strictly protected listed buildings, high-performance uPVC offers exceptional insulation and value for standard replacements, and structural aluminium provides the immense strength needed for grand extensions with expansive glass walls.
  • Thermal Performance and U-Values: Always check the insulation credentials of the systems. Look for low U-values (which measure heat loss—the lower the number, the better the insulation) and frames engineered with modern thermal breaks or multi-chambered profiles to ensure your home stays warm and energy-efficient.
  • Security Specifications: Windows and doors are your home’s primary line of defence. Ensure your new systems are fitted with robust, multi-point locking mechanisms, internally glazed frames (which prevent the glass from being removed from the outside), and heavy-duty, corrosion-resistant hardware.
  • Timeless Colour and Finish Choices: Modern frames come in a vast array of smooth architectural colours and realistic woodgrain foils. Because these high-quality finishes are designed to last for decades without fading or requiring repainting, it is best to select a timeless shade—such as classic anthracite grey, black, or heritage cream—that complements your brickwork or render.
  • Acoustic Insulation: If your property faces a busy main road, near a railway line, or in a noisy built-up area, consider specifying acoustic laminates or varied glass thicknesses. This drastically reduces external noise transfer, creating a quiet, peaceful indoor environment.
  • Professional Installation Credentials: Even the highest-specification frame will underperform if it is fitted incorrectly. Precision engineering requires precision installation. Always rely on an experienced, FENSA-certified team to handle the full technical survey and installation process to guarantee a flawless, weather-tight seal and smooth operation.

How Our uPVC Windows & Doors Are Made

The outstanding durability and warmth of our uPVC systems are down to advanced UK manufacturing and precision engineering. Rather than using basic, mass-produced frames, we partner with leading British manufacturers who custom-build each window and door to your exact specifications.
Here is how the premium frames are made before our team installs them in your home:

  • Shaping the Insulated Frames: The process starts by shaping high-grade, durable uPVC into long frame sections. Inside these frames are clever hollow pockets (multi-chambered profiles). These pockets trap still air, acting as a natural barrier to stop heat escaping from your home.
  • Adding Internal Strength: To ensure the frames are completely rigid and secure, tough steel supports are fitted inside the uPVC. This hidden metal core prevents the frames from bending or sagging over time, allowing them to easily support heavy double or triple glazing.
  • Seamless Heat Welding: Unlike traditional frames that are held together with screws or glue, the corners of uPVC frames are melted and fused together under immense pressure. This creates a single, incredibly strong joint that is completely airtight and watertight.
  • Applying the Colour Finish: For coloured or woodgrain frames, a tough, weather-resistant layer is heat-bonded directly to the uPVC. This finish becomes part of the frame itself, meaning it will never peel, scratch, or fade in the sun.
  • Fitting Locks and Glass: Finally, the frames are fitted with robust multi-point locks, smooth hinges, and energy-efficient glass units. Every part is carefully tested to ensure it operates perfectly before being delivered to your home.

Frequently Asked Questions

uPVC is slightly more expensive than standard PVC. This is because uPVC is unplasticized (hardened and rigid), making it tough and weather-resistant enough for window frames and doors, whereas standard PVC is soft and flexible.

No, but it is highly fire-retardant and will self-extinguish if exposed to flame. While it handles normal British summer weather perfectly well, low-quality uPVC can expand slightly on intensely hot days, which can cause doors or windows to temporarily stiffen or stick until they cool down.

Argon-filled, Low-E (Low Emissivity) double or triple glazing is the best choice for trapping warmth and reducing energy bills. For large doors or ground-floor windows, you should always ensure it uses toughened or laminated safety glass for maximum security.

It depends on your priorities. uPVC is ideal if you want a budget-friendly option that requires zero maintenance beyond a wipe down. Timber (wood) is better if you want premium traditional character, though it does require regular painting or sealing to prevent rotting and warping over time.

Classic white remains the most popular and affordable choice. For modern renovations, Anthracite Grey and Black are massive trends because they mimic the sleek look of aluminium. For traditional properties, wood-grain foils like Chartwell Green or Golden Oak offer authentic character without the upkeep.

Three months on from fitting I am delighted with my 5 casement windows, fixed feature window, back door and B&B front door. The quality of the joinery and fittings is excellent, enhancing my property considerably, and the service I received was very good indeed. Issues were quickly and fairly dealt with, and the cost was competitive. Thankyou! Two years in from fitting, some issues have arisen with my windows and French doors that require attention. Joel came out today, accurately and comprehensively assessed the problems, and a remedial team are due to come out for a day and remedy them before winter. Very reassuring, and an indication that Allwood's warranty can be relied upon.

Very happy with our windows, and the overall experience with Allwood, would highly recommend. We ordered 15 painted wood casement windows in a variety of sizes, some opening, some not, some with Georgian bars, some not. We also had two different paint colours (front of house and back of house), and were colour-matching to F&B paint colours we're using elsewhere. Allwood dealt with all our requests with ease. It's fantastic to deal with a company where you're not passed from pillar to post - there's a real personal touch all the way through from survey to fitting, exactly what you'd expect from a family owned business. The windows themselves are great quality, and the price was very competitive.
